Hospital officials unveiled a $9.1 million addition to the public during recent ceremonies. Area residents and dignitaries gathered to tour the new addition that dramatically transforms and improves patient privacy and medical treatment.
The addition nearly doubles the size of the original hospital built in 1960. The 37,000 square foot addition houses a new Emergency Department, Inpatient and Outpatient Surgery Department and a new Outpatient Specialty Clinic Department.
The Emergency Department improves patient and family privacy and ultimate comfort. Four trauma treatment rooms, three examination areas and an intravenous therapy room greatly expand Greenville Regional’s capabilities to accommodate a service that has grown eight percent in recent years. An all-weather ambulance bay will protect patients transported by ambulance from inclement weather. A separate 24-hour emergency registration area will ease the process for incoming patients. Secure entrances will be in operation after 8 p.m.
The hospital’s high demand Outpatient Specialty Clinics feature a larger area with more seating and registration separate from Inpatient Care, Diagnostics and Testing. The addition was built in response to area residents who desire more medical specialty services closer to home, and the growing interests of specialists who expressed interest in conducting clinics at Greenville Regional Hospital.
The Surgery Department features three surgical suites, centralized pre-operative and post-operative areas, all designed to enhance patient privacy.
Once the addition is fully operational, renovations and expansion will begin on the Imaging Services Department and the Laboratory.
Greenville Regional Hospital’s Sleep Disorders Center continues to grow. The center recently located to a new facility adjacent to the hospital's main building.
Douglas Dothager, MD, of Pulmonary Physicians of Southern Illinois, is a board certified specialist in sleep medicine who travels to Greenville Regional Hospital three times a month. Patients can now see Dr. Dothager and have sleep studies conducted all in the same location. Before the construction of the new center, Dr. Dothager saw patients in the hospital’s Outpatient Specialty Clinic and sleep studies were conducted in one of two apartments at Emerald Pointe. All patient records are maintained in the new location as well.
