Greenville Regional Hospital physician Dr. Phil Siefken, of Greenville Medical Associates, has been selected by the Illinois Rural Health Association (IRHA) as one of five Rural Physician of Excellence honorees.

Dr. Phil Siefken

Every year, the IRHA honors physicians who exhibit a special commitment to rural healthcare.  According to the IRHA, one of the biggest challenges across the nation is the shortage of physicians who practice in rural settings and the organization feels it is important to recognize those who have accepted this calling and gone out of their way to make an impact.

Phil Siefken, M.D., of Greenville is the son of retired Greenville College professors Dr. Hugh and Marie Siefken.  Dr. Siefken, a board-certified physician in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics, began seeing patients at Greenville Medical Associates in the summer of 2006.

A reception will be held to honor Dr. Phil Siefken on Monday, November 26th from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Greenville Regional Hospital Community Room.  The reception is a come-and-go event, with the IRHA award presentation to be held at 11:45 a.m.  Refreshments will be served and the community is invited to attend.

In addition to the 2012 Rural Physician of Excellence Award, Dr. Siefken will be presented with a copy of a Congratulatory House Resolution, introduced by Representative Paul Evans and a Senate Congratulatory Certificate on behalf of Senator Kyle McCarter.

After receiving his undergraduate degree from Greenville College, Siefken attended the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria and completed a combined internal medicine/pediatrics residency at Methodist Hospital of Indiana in Indianapolis.

Following residency, Dr. Siefken worked at an inner city clinic in Indianapolis called HealthNet.  Prior to his arrival in Greenville, he was an associate professor at Indiana University where he received two teaching awards and served as Director of the Pediatric Residency Continuity Clinic.  In this role, Dr. Siefken oversaw 30 faculty pediatricians in their outpatient education of 19 residents at 17 office sites.

Dr. Siefken sees patients at Greenville Medical Associates, along with Drs. Richard Funneman and Kelsey Hopkins and Certified Family Nurse Practitioners Christy Forbes, Charlotte Hall, Kathleen Johnson, and Donna Swain.  Greenville Medical Associates is located on the campus of Greenville Regional Hospital.  For more information, call 618.664.2531.
