CERTIFIED ATHLETIC TRAINER JOINS GRH SPORTS MEDICINE TEAM
Greenville Regional Hospital has welcomed Certified Athletic Trainer Whitney Howell to their sports medicine team. Howell joins board-certified sports medicine specialist Dr. John Yetter and certified athletic trainers Mike Peppler, Nathan Schwartzkopf, and Stacy Turner.
Whitney Howell received her Bachelor of Science degree in Athletic Training from Culver-Stockton College in Canton, MO and her Master of Science degree in Kinesiology from Western Illinois University in Macomb. Howell has served as a Graduate Assistant Athletic Trainer for Western Illinois University’s women’s soccer and men’s and women’s swim and dive teams since 2009.
In her new role, Howell works with women’s basketball, track, softball, and men’s and women’s soccer teams at Greenville College, providing additional assistance to other teams when necessary. Howell is responsible for injury prevention, injury recognition, rehabilitation, and return-to-play for athletes.
Athletic trainers focus on injury prevention and care. Treatment can include stretching, taping, prevention of dehydration, care on the sports field, determination if an athlete can continue to play, follow-up treatment, wound care, and exercise.
Sports Medicine Specialist John Yetter, M.D., is board certified in Family Medicine as well as Sports Medicine. Dr. Yetter provides diagnosis and treatment of athletes to ensure safe return to competition following injuries; preseason sports physical exams; nutrition, fluid replacement, and supplemental evaluation and counseling; conditioning and training counseling, which includes body mechanic assessment; concussion assessment and treatment; as well as sporting event coverage. Dr. Yetter oversees the Greenville Regional Hospital Sports Medicine program and sees patients weekly in the hospital’s Outpatient Specialty Clinic.
Certified Athletic Trainer Stacy Turner provides sports medicine coverage to student athletes at Greenville High School.
Certified Athletic Trainer Nathan Schwartzkopf provides sports medicine coverage to student athletes at Vandalia High School
Certified Athletic Trainer Mike Peppler provides sports medicine coverage to student athletes at Greenville College.
Sports Medicine services provided by Dr. Yetter at Greenville Regional Hospital are available to active individuals, including both competitive and recreational athletes.
